SCOTT BRADLEE AND THE POSTMODERN JUKEBOX: COMING TO DUBLIN!
So Eoin listens to all kinds of crazy music and half the time I don’t really pay much attention, but for this band (and okay, he’s had a few gems) I’ll make an exception.
Gaining fame from Youtube, Scott Bradlee and the Postmodern Jukebox give typical chart toppers a complete 50s makeover and turn them into their jazzy, quirky former-era counterparts. The entire band dresses for the occasion and sometimes you’ll find an odd flaming saxophone or sad clown thrown in for good measure. What’s not to love?
Scott Bradlee describes the Postmodern Jukebox as a means to “get my audience to think of songs not as rigid, ephemeral objects, but like malleable globs of silly putty. Songs can be twisted, shaped, and altered without losing their identities–just as we grow, age, and expire without losing ours–and it is through this exploration that the gap between “high” and “low” art can be bridged most readily.”
Really he says it better than I ever could. The point is, they’re wonderfully talented and an incredibly refreshing act and better yet, they’re coming to Dublin!
A few days ago they announced that they’d be doing a European tour and that Whelan’s was on the cards. And you all know how much I love Whelan’s as well as excuses for a vintage-themed night out! We’ve decided that the Vintage Cocktail Club will be perfect for post-concert drinks.. I can’t wait!!! (No genuinely. I’ve already started practising my curls and pin-up hairstyles…)
Until then, here’s a little video for those of you who are unfamiliar with the works of Scott Bradlee and the Postmodern Jukebox!
